09 Apr Busy year for disability council
Cook Islands National Disability Council executives and members had a busy past year according to the president’s annual report tabled at the recent annual general meeting.
They attended the Pacific Regional Disability Conference in Noumea in April 2013 and the Pacific Regional Disability Consultation Workshop in Nadi in June 2013, reported president Kevin Hosking.
The conference was to discuss where CINDC was in the activities it had set out for disability inclusive development at the national level and gave them a chance to comment on the high level meeting held in New York in September 2013.
The Polynesian CBR forum in Apia in June was a chance for countries present to discuss how best to include the community in the provision of care and rehabilitation to PWDs.
In November Hosking attended a workshop as part of his duties as a senior statistics officer for Regional Disability.
CINDC in collaboration with the Creative Centre had a picnic day for the International Day for Persons with Disabilities at Papaaroa beach in December
In February Hosking travelled to Incheon in theRepublic of Korea as the DPIAP sitting member in place of the DPIAP chair who had been sick prior to the working group meeting so asked DPI Cook Islands to sit on the first WG meeting as his proxy.
