02 May Paper donation for Rarotonga schools
Stacks of paper were donated to Rarotonga schools on Wednesday by HSBC Private Bank.
Fifty-six boxes of A4 photocopy paper was donated to schools on the island, to help with their education programmes.
The donation is made annually and this is HSBC’s 21st year donating photocopy paper to Cook Islands schools. Last year the donation went to schools across the southern group islands, and for the first time next year HSBC is having the Ministry of Education decide where the resource should be allocated.
Tereora, Nukutere and Papaaroa Colleges, Black Rock Pre-School, Creative Centre, Imanuela Akatemia, Takitumu School and ECE, Apii Te Uki Ou, Nikao, Arorangi, Avarua, St Josephs, Avatea and Rutaki Primary schools all received boxes of paper from this year’s donation, depending on the size of the school roll.
Secretary of Education Sharyn Paio accepted the donation on behalf of the schools.
“It is the end of the financial year and budgets are tight so this is a welcome donation,” said Paio.
HSBC general manager Taki Anaru said the donation is part of HSBC global commitment to helping local communities, particularly in education.
“We all have kids at school here,” said Anaru. “We recognise our local schools have limited budgets and we want to help.”
